Jonney’s Gallery Debut and the Power of Stability

Last night showed the heart of what our transitional housing program is all about. At the Justice Center, housing is the starting point, not the finish line. Our program gives people the stability, consistency, and community connections they need to rebuild their lives in a way that is grounded and lasting.

Jonney, one of our residents, now has several of his paintings featured in this year’s AVA Members Holiday Exhibition. Over the last year he has made real progress, both personally and within the community. He has found support, routine, and a sense of belonging. He also discovered a creative outlet through our weekly art class taught by our volunteer, Kitty O’Hara, who brings a gentle, encouraging space for residents to explore their creativity.

Seeing Jonney’s paintings in a professional gallery is a powerful reflection of what support and stability can make possible. It shows what can grow when someone finally has room to breathe, room to focus, and room to imagine a future for themselves.

We are proud of Jonney for sharing his work publicly. And we are grateful to Kitty for giving her time and talent every week to nurture moments like this.

Jonney’s paintings are on view at AVA in Lebanon through December 23. We also have a small selection of his original paintings available for purchase at our office at 58 North Main Street for anyone who wants to support him directly.

This is what stability looks like. This is what community can do.
